KidSport Winnipeg and former Winnipeg Blue Bomber great Doug Brown have announced plans for the seventh annual KidSport Winnipeg football camp to take place on Saturday, May 14th 2016.  Prior to the camp, members of the local media will square off against Winnipeg Blue Bomber alumni and current players and participate in a mini-football combine.

"KidSport is a grassroots organization whose mandate is as critical as it is simple: “So All Kids Can Play” said Brown.  “All athletes recognize the immeasurable benefits that sports and team activities have on today's youth.  Sports are a constructive vehicle that imparts lessons like teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and sacrifice.  It is our honor to hold this camp for these kids and start working with them on these foundations of both sport and life."

Brown, along with a number of current and retired CFL players will be taking kids through all the elements of a football combine, as well as position-specific fundamental drills and exercises.  Along with these technical abilities, players will also provide examples of other important skills such as leadership, practice, hard work, dedication and self-confidence. The camp is open to athletes who received funding in 2015 from KidSport in order to play football and is supported by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Keener Jerseys and KidSport Winnipeg.

The first annual media challenge will feature members of the local media participating in a mini football combine, giving them a first-hand perspective of football’s biggest off-season challenge. They will be coached along by Winnipeg Blue Bomber alumni  members Troy Westwood, Chris Cvetkovic, Glenn January and a number of other current Blue Bombers and alumni in what promises to be an entertaining display of skills.

"For the first time at this year’s camp, we are challenging all members of the media to participate in the combine drills prior to the kid’s involvement” said Brown. “If any of them can run a sub six second forty yard dash, or jump higher than 12 inches, they will have greatly exceeded my expectations!”

The camp will take place at the Axworthy Health & RecPlex at the University of Winnipeg.
