Maine Sports Commission Announces Mountain Bike Events

The Maine Sports Commission has announced the following mountain bike events taking place around the state for riders of various skill levels:

6/27: Kona Bicycles Mountain Bike Adventure Series ride at Marsh Island

On Saturday June 27th, the Penobscot Region chapter of NEMBA will be hosting a major mountain bike event at Marsh Island in Orono Maine. There will be rides for all levels of riders on marked trails, as well as led rides. All proceeds will go towards preserving local trails.
 
6/28: The Kingfield Pops Ride
On Sunday June 28th, Carrabassett Valley NEMBA invites Kingfield POPS attendees to an introductory guided mountain bike ride. The ride will highlight some of Carrabassett Valley’s most enjoyable trails and is intended to introduce newer riders to the sport of mountain biking.
 
7/18: Carrabassett Backcountry Cycle Challenge
On Sunday July 18th the town of Carrabassett Valley is hosting an endurance race. There will be 50k and 100k options and for the first time an introductory 15k route. Hundreds of competitive cyclists will be in the Valley for this event.
 
7/25-26: Midcoast Maine NEMBA TrailFest
On July 25th and 26th, the Midcoast Maine chapter of NEMBA is hosting a Trail Festival in Camden, Maine. The goal is to construct a new trail that will be enjoyed by all for decades to come. On both days after breakfast (provided), participants will split up into groups and work on different sections of the trail. After lunch there will be rides on the local trails. Free camping is available.  

8/15: Baxter Outdoors Duathlon 
On Saturday August 15th, Maine Huts & Trails, working with Carrabassett Region NEMBA, will be hosting a running and riding duathlon on Carrabassett Valley’s trails.   

8/22-24: Carrabassett Valley NEMBA TrailFest
On August 22nd – 24th Carrabassett Valley NEMBA and Maine Huts and Trails will be hosting a three day trail building festival at Maine Huts and Trails Stratton Brook Hut. Lodging and meals will be provided. The plan is to work on the last 2.5 miles of the Oak Knoll Trail and enjoy quite a bit of riding too. 
 
9/19: 12 Hours of Bradbury Mountain
The ninth annual 12 hours race at Bradbury Mountain State Park will be run as a partial benefit for Great Portland NEMBA and the area’s trail systems. Participants will arrive from all over the northeast for this lengthy endurance event. 
 
9/27: Kona Bicycles Mountain Bike Adventure Series Ride in Carrabassett Valley
On 9/27, Carrabassett Valley NEMBA will be hosting a major mountain bike ride on the town’s extensive trail system. Marked loops for all levels of riders, as well as guided rides, will highlight the Valley’s extensive trail system. While the official event is on Sunday, riders are encouraged to join CR NEMBA members for rides on Saturday, as well. 
 
10/18: Bond Brook Tread Fest
On October 18th, Central Maine NEMBA will be working with Augusta Trails to put on a running and mountain biking race. Courses for cyclists include seven, 14 and 21 miles with a newly added dirt duathalon which includes a 5-mile run and a 7-mile ride. 
 
Numerous Local Mountain Bike Rides and Trail Care Events:
Many of the chapters of the New England Mountain Bike Association (NEMBA) in Maine lead mountain bike rides that are open to the public and free of charge. NEMBA chapters also host numerous trail stewardship events so that outdoor enthusiasts can give back to the trail. All of these are listed in a searchable format here:http://goo.gl/ndW12s

The Maine Sports Commission aims to promote Maine as a four-season destination for sports events and sports-related meetings and to increase the economic impact of the state by attracting new events or by expanding existing sports-related events. Through these efforts, the Maine Sports Commission is helping the state realize the positive economic impact and social benefits of sports.
