USA Curling’s top event will head to Cedar Rapids in 2021 marking the first time the Men’s and Women’s National Championships will take place in Iowa.

The competition will be contested Feb. 6-13, 2021, bringing 200 athletes, coaches and officials to the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena in partnership with the City of Cedar Rapids, Cedar Rapids Tourism Office, VenuWorks, and the Cedar Rapids Curling Club.

“Cedar Rapids did a superb job of hosting the USA Curling Arena Nationals in 2015, and the combined support and skills of the curling club, arena staff and tourism department should make the 2021 Men’s and Women’s Nationals another very successful event,” said Rick Patzke, chief executive officer, USA Curling.

The weeklong national event features the top men’s and women’s teams in the country and helps determine Team USA for the subsequent World Championships. The 2021 World Women’s Championship will take place in Switzerland while the 2021 World Men’s Championship heads to Canada. The 2020 Nationals are taking place in February in Spokane, Wash.

“Cedar Rapids Curling is grateful to the City of Cedar Rapids, Cedar Rapids Tourism Office, VenuWorks/Cedar Rapids Ice Arena, and club members Jeremy Parrish and Packy Moran for putting together this bid,” said Phil Burian, president of the Cedar Rapids Curling Club. “We are thrilled to be the first host of this event in Iowa. It will be a great way to help curling grow in the Eastern Iowa corridor as anticipation for the Beijing Olympics rises.  We look forward to seeing the competitors, coaches, officials, volunteers and fans in 2021.”
