The Major Taylor Velodrome in Indianapolis, Ind., known as the Amateur Sports Capital of the World, will welcome hundreds of masters cyclists this week for the 2013 USA Cycling Masters Track National Championships. Riders will compete for more than 90 Stars-and-Stripes jerseys over five days of racing.

In addition to the individual pursuit, time trials, scratch races, points races and sprints fill the schedule of events through the first four days. The national championships conclude Sunday with the team pursuit, team sprint and the always-exciting Madison competitions. A full schedule is available here

The Venue: The Major Taylor Velodrome is part of the Indy Cycloplex, one of the few locations in the country that features cycling opportunities in multiple disciplines. In addition to the velodrome, the Cycloplex also features a BMX track and a cyclo-cross course, and has hosted road races, making it a popular year-round destination for the region’s many cyclists. The venue is managed by Marian University, one of the most successful collegiate cycling programs in the nation. This event marks the return of a national championship to the Major Taylor Velodrome since the USA Cycling Collegiate Track Nationals were held here in 2010 and 2011.

Fans and athletes at the Indy Cycloplex are invited to visit the Sun King VIP tent on Friday, August 2, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. There will be music, a variety of food trucks and a beer garden. Entrance is free.

Volunteer: Interested in helping out at the event? Volunteers are needed daily in shifts from 7-11 a.m., 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., and 2-5 p.m. Learn more by contacting jkukolla@marian.edu.
