USA Weightlifting and the DuPage Sports Commission announced the return of the Nike USA Weightlifting National Championships powered by Rogue Fitness to the Chicago region in 2020. The Nike National Championships powered by Rogue Fitness will be held at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center May 14-17, 2020. The 2020 event in DuPage County is USA Weightlifting’s last national championships before athletes head to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games.

DuPage County has proven to be a great host destination in recent years for USA Weightlifting, including first hosting the USA Weightlifting National Championships in 2017 and the 2019 USA Weightlifting Junior National Championships, both at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center.

“DuPage and the Westin Lombard have been great partners,” Pedro Meloni, USA Weightlifting Director of Events and Sponsorships said. “DuPage is convenient for participants traveling to the Chicago area, and it’s great to have the competition just steps away from where participants are staying. We are thrilled that we are returning to DuPage.”

Launched last month by the the DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau, the DuPage Sports Commission is working to advance sports across the County and provide the best experience to athletes, coaches, and spectators.

“On behalf of the nearly one million residents throughout DuPage County, we are thrilled to welcome back USA Weightlifting as they prepare for competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics,” said Beth Marchetti, Executive Director of the DuPage CVB and Sports Commission.  “DuPage has a rich tradition of sports - hosting nationally recognized events for nearly 100 years. Today’s announcement only bolsters this wonderful legacy, and on the heels of officially launching the DuPage Sports Commission, it makes it even that much more exciting.”

Qualifying totals are available here, with registration opening in January 2020. Hotel bookings will open soon.

DuPage County won’t be the only destination seeing elite weightlifting next spring. As part of the 100 Days to Go to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 celebration, USA Weightlifting will host a showcase event in New York City April 15. The showcase isin conjunction with the U.S. Olympic Committee’s 100 Days to Go celebration. The process for selection to the New York Event will come at a later date.

USA Weightlifting has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to land on the medal stand multiple times at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. To capitalize on this opportunity we’re raising money to build a state-of-the-art training and housing facility for the team.
