LPGA International Undertakes Renovation Project in Daytona Beach
13 Mar, 2020
LPGA International, home of the highly acclaimed Jones and Hill courses, greets spring (and for many, golf trip season) in better shape than ever following a renovation project that enhanced both layouts and the property’s renowned practice facility.
New owner Fore Golf Partners took over the property in the fall and immediately began investing in Daytona Beach’s flagship facility. At the heart of the work was a bunker renovation project that restored the bunkers on both layouts to their original specifications and installed new drainage.
Portions of the cart paths on both courses were repaved and the member driving range was resurfaced with TifTuf Bermudagrass.
The work commissioned by Fore Golf Partners has LPGA International in prime condition as Daytona Beach enjoys the heart of its winter and spring seasons. LPGA International, which counts World Golf Hall of Famer Karrie Webb among the women who have triumphed at the property, is one of Central Florida’s premier multi-course facilities.
The Rees Jones designed course features yawning waste bunkers, mounding and natural marsh areas. The layout, home to some of the region’s best and most undulating greens, is challenging but with five sets of tees, it’s playable for golfers of all skill levels.
The Arthur Hills design features fairways lined by stunning magnolia trees and native pines, conjuring up images of North Carolina’s famed sandhills. With no parallel fairways or housing, the Hills Course is certainly worthy of building a trip around.
While the courses at LPGA International are Daytona Beach’s most prominent, they are hardly alone. The area is home to more than 20 courses, including a pair of Donald Ross designs in the South Course at Daytona Beach Golf Club and New Smyrna Golf Club.
Victoria Hills, a Ron Garl course just a short drive west of “The World’s Most Famous Beach,” is the 15th best public course in Florida, according Golfweek.
