USA Triathlon announced the 2019 USA Triathlon Race Director Summit, presented by ACTIVE Network, will be held Feb. 1-3 at the picturesque Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs.

The Summit is an opportunity for race directors to share ideas and best practices while gaining continuing education units (CEUs) to advance their professional development.

As part of the three-day event, attendees have the opportunity to engage in small-group discussions led and facilitated by the race directors themselves, as well as attend presentations by industry experts on topics including social media, event marketing, cost management and more. USA Triathlon is offering a cost-effective entry fee of $199 to encourage a wide scope of race directors to participate.

“Race directors are critical to the safety, growth and overall athlete experience of our sanctioned events, so USA Triathlon looks forward to welcoming this important constituency group to the leading race director conference in our sport,” said Brian D’Amico, USA Triathlon National Events Director. “Our team is excited about the program’s engaging content, and we’re confident that we will build on the success of last year’s event.”

Driven by the USA Triathlon Race Director Committee, the format was revamped last year based on feedback from the event organizer community and is designed to best serve race director needs.

“The new format in 2018 was embraced and allowed us to collectively discuss timely issues and topics that are critical to the success of all race directors,” said Bruce Dunn, Race Director Committee Chair. “The race director community has demonstrated a commitment to grow and continually enhance the sport, and the Summit is the perfect environment to achieve our shared goals.”

Breakout sessions will cover topics such as: social media marketing and ad buying; sponsorship activation and how to attract and maintain sponsor relationships; maximizing event profitability by reducing overhead and streamlining product purchases; regional roundtables that provide the opportunity to meet with other race directors and USA Triathlon support staff; and updates from USA Triathlon on the industry, Time to Tri and other programs.

Beyond the presentations and breakout sessions, social activities will include a welcome reception on Friday night and the annual race director 5k fun run.

Registration is now open. The cost to attend is $199 through Dec. 31, 2018, and will increase to $249 on Jan. 1, 2019.
