Adaptive Motorsports to be Showcased at Pikes Peak International Raceway

For the first time since 1999, the Tri-State Auto Show returns to Colorado March 14-15. Held at the National Western Complex, the exhibition will feature 180 custom vehicles, trucks and motorcycles, including the Falci Adaptive Motorsports 2013 SS Chevrolet as one of the main attractions.

Founded by one of Colorado’s oldest car clubs, the Sabers of Denver, the show has drawn hundreds of thousands of automotive aficionados from across the globe since its humble 1958 beginnings. The event grew to be one of the largest in the nation featuring more than 600 collector cars before calling it quits in 1999.

“The Sabers of Denver are proud to resurrect the Tri-State Auto Exhibition this March for our 43rd auto show. We’re thankful to all of the car clubs and enthusiasts who have supported us over the years, and look forward to many more,” said Tri-State Auto Show Director, Joe DeSalvo.

Fast-forward 20 years to a reborn ode to the automobile. The Falci Adaptive MotorsportsChevy Camaro will be on display for the first time in the show’s history. The Falci Adaptive Motorsports NASCAR program was built in the shops of Furniture Row Racing. The car now has a permanent home at Pikes Peak International Raceway.

“It’s amazing to see the history and passion of the Tri-State Auto Show come back to life. The Sabers, and the enthusiasm for their events, is more apparent than ever with the return of the exhibition, and we’re excited to have a presence,” said former Furniture Row Racing President and Pikes Peak International Raceway COO, Joe Garone. 

A program pioneered byDr. Scott Falci, the vehicle allows mobility challenged individuals to drive an 850-horsepower Cup car hands- and foot-free using technology that allows turning the vehicle with head movements. Brake and acceleration happens by applying pressure or suction using the driver’s breath. 

Other notable automobiles that will be on display include:

·     The first car to break 200 miles-per-hour in Colorado (1965 AA fuel dragster)

·     The first top fuel rear engine car to participate in the 1969 Pamona World Finals

?·     An original 1968 all-aluminum Spickler Automotive Dragster

The Sabers of Denver have been participating in and promoting motorsports since 1956. The club began with 12 original members advocating for safe driving and drag racing. The Sabers grew to create the first Tri-State Auto Exhibition in 1958 followed by the Tri-State Swap Meet. Both have been a huge success in Denver as well as a tradition for decades. The legacy of the Sabers of Denver continues with 40 current club members. 

Falci Adaptive Motorsportsi s a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing adaptive motorsports and the rapid advancements in adaptive technology. For those individuals who have been injured from a spinal cord injury, increased mobility and independence are key to quality of life.
