Local Athletes to Compete in State Track Championships Hosted at Gulf Shores Sportsplex

This weekend high school athletes from across the state of Alabama – including local student-athletes from Gulf Shores and Robertsdale High School - will converge on the Alabama Gulf Coast for the 2011 AHSAA State Track Championship, which is hosted by the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission along with the City of Gulf Shores.

Over 1500 student-athletes representing classes 4A through 6A will compete in 17 events, such as shot put, discus, javelin, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, hurdles, dash and relay. Competition kicks off Friday, May 6 at 8:30 a.m. and will continue throughout the day with the last event scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Resuming play on Saturday, May 7 at 8:00 a.m., the athletes will battle it out until the awards ceremony, which begins at 4:30 p.m.

Many of local high schools, including Gulf Shores and Robertsdale have star athletes who will be competing in this event. JT Peterson, Allison Taylor, Cap Peavey and Ashley May will represent the Dolphins.

All events will take place at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex. Tickets may be purchased at the gate for $8.00 per person per day. Parking for the event is $3.00 per car.
