Huntsville, Alabama: We've Got the Space

In the Rocket City, we’re known for being the home to Space Camp (the movie, too) at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center (also Alabama’s #1 top paid attraction). In fact, in the 1960s, engineers in Huntsville, Ala., pushed past limits and expectations, helping to build the Saturn V moon rockets that carried men to the moon. Today, our scientists and engineers are working on the next rocket, the most powerful rocket ever built that will one day carry humans to deep space…and even Mars. You see, that’s the thing about Huntsville. We want to put that same eagle-eye focus, attention to detail and energy that’s ingrained in our city’s culture behind your next sporting event. And we will. No matter what type of sporting event, we’ve got the space for it here in Huntsville.

You Name It, We’ve Got the Facility

Whether your event is for 500 (or less) to 10,000, we’ve got you covered. From a baseball stadium to new soccer fields, basketball courts, bowling centers, football fields, golf courses, ice rinks, disc golf courses, rowing facilities, competitive swimming pools, tennis courts, track & field and much, much more, Huntsville has the space you need to let your competitive side shine. The Huntsville Aquatics Center, formerly known as the Brahan Spring Park Natatorium, recently finished renovations that include the addition of a new 50-meter competition pool and a warm water instructional pool in addition to the Legacy pool. With these renovations, the city now has two Olympic-size pools and the largest spectator seating capacity in Alabama at 1,400 seats. Huntsville is home to the Huntsville Havoc (Southern Professional Hockey League), Rocket City United (National Premier Soccer League) and the famed Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Hampton Cove, we are a city that gets sports events.

Another facility recently added to the Rocket City is the Huntsville Community Archery Park. The park is Alabama’s fourteenth community archery park and is part of a growing network across the state. This facility is one component of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) effort to increase awareness and participation in the life skill of archery. It will be open year-round during normal park hours, and contains a 10-target adult range from 15-70 yards, and a four-target youth range of 5-15 yards.

Coming new to Huntsville is the Volleyball Complex in John Hunt Park. This complex will be a 12-court sand volleyball facility on the former site of the Becky Peirce Municipal Golf Course. The complex will be lighted and irrigated to enable the sand (provided by USA Volleyball) to be dampened as needed. A building that includes a changing room/showers, restrooms and a concession stand will be built alongside the courts, as well as a 150 foot by 30 foot pavilion.

In addition to sporting venues, upcoming renovations to the Von Braun Center, a multipurpose facility, will also provide additional space including the addition of 35,000 square feet of ballroom and multi-purpose space; 14,000 square feet of breakout meeting space; a renovated North Hall a new pre-function lobby with 15,000 square feet; a new 1,200-capacity music hall and food and beverage venue. The new concourse will also create a seamless connection between the existing South Hall Concourse to the Embassy Suites Hotel.
