CARY, NC: Sports & Properties, Inc. (SPI) of Cary has once again been selected as the host organization for the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. The Championships will return to the Greensboro Coliseum Complex in Greensboro, North Carolina, January 18-25, 2015.

The Championships are U.S. Figure Skating’s premier event and feature 350 of the nation’s top skaters competing in women’s, men’s, pairs, and ice dancing. The Championships receive over 20 hours of national network and cable television coverage and are projected to have an economic impact of approximately $25 million in the state of North Carolina.

“We are honored to be selected a second time by U.S. Figure Skating to host their most important and prestigious event,” said Hill Carrow, CEO of SPI. “This is a true testament to the extensive team effort that went into making the 2011 Championships a major success. Now, of course, everyone will be expecting us to raise the bar in 2015, and I am confident that our supporters are up to the task.”

At the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships national champions were crowned in Novice, Junior, and Senior divisions. Beginning next year, new divisions for Intermediates and Juveniles are being added to the national championships. Prior national champions include Michelle Kwan, Kristi Yamaguchi, Brian Boitano, and Evan Lysacek. Other recent host cities have included St. Paul (2008), Cleveland (2009), Spokane (2010), and San Jose (2012).

“For U.S. Figure Skating to return to Greensboro so quickly makes a real statement about the quality of last year’s Championships in Greensboro,” said Kim Strable, President of the Greensboro Sports Commission. “We are thrilled that Sports & Properties is again partnering with the Greensboro team for the 2015 Championships and building on the tremendous success of the 2011 event.”

Hill Carrow, CEO of SPI, will serve as Chairman for the Championships. Faryn Roy, SPI’s Director of Events & Operations, will serve as Director of Operations. SPI will lead a coordinated team management effort that includes the Greensboro Sports Commission, Greensboro Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Greensboro Coliseum Complex, and North Carolina Figure Skating. The Championships are also expected to involve over 30 local and regional sponsors and more than 500 volunteers.
