The US Youth Soccer Midwest Region Soccer Board has announced that the Midwest Region II Soccer Tournament for 2011 has been awarded to the Fox Cities. The Appleton Soccer Club and DePere Select Soccer Club will partner to host the tournament in June of 2011.

The tournament will bring over 220 teams and 4000 players to the Fox Cities for five days of competition at USA Youth Sports Complex and DePere Southwest Park.

Carl Micke, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, said "Our committee is ecstatic. We are very proud to be bringing the Midwest Region Soccer Championships back to the Fox Cities. The support of the community in 2006 was a big factor in our winning the bid for 2011.

The tournament will further soccer in the Fox Cities. We found that after the tournament was held here in 2006 the level of play was elevated. In 2008 two local teams qualified to play in the Regional Championships, and we look forward to providing this opportunity to more of our youth."

3200 hotel rooms will be booked each day for the event in the Appleton and Green Bay area. The tournament is projected to provide a positive economic impact of $2.5 million dollars. Brad Toll President/CEO of the Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau, said, "We are excited for the community and youth soccer. Both Convention and Visitors Bureaus are looking forward to working together on this soccer tournament to make it a huge success. The economic impact to our communities will be enormous."

Pete Schueppert, Sports Sales Director for the Fox Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau commented, "We are thrilled to host this prestigious event. Securing this bid will enhance our image throughout the Midwest and will assist in attracting other large events."
