VisionServe Alliance honors Mark Lucas for Excellence in Leadership

The United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) is eager to announce that Executive Director Mark Lucas has received VisionServe Alliance's 2013 Excellence in Leadership Award. VisionServe Alliance is a membership organization centered on engaging leaders who work to provide services for people with vision loss. Lucas received the award on November 8, 2013, during the VisionServe Alliance Fall 2013 Executive Conference in Pittsburgh.

“I am incredibly humbled and honored to receive this award from my peers at VisionServe Alliance,” Lucas said. “My professional relationships garnered through this organization have served me as an executive director for two reasons: first, I am able to understand and emulate the many traits of successful executives who serve people with vision loss; and second, I am able to expand USABA’s reach through collaboration with the leaders of the many great organizations that represent VisionServe Alliance in providing sport, health and life opportunities for people who are blind or visually impaired.

“This award is a further testament to all the hard work and dedication of all the athletes, coaches, administrators, volunteers and board members who have helped USABA achieve its goals and improve the lives of so many men and women with vision loss since the organization’s inception in 1976.”

VisionServe Alliance’s Excellence in Leadership Award, the organization’s highest honor, recognizes a member whose contributions serve people with vision loss at a national, state or local level. The award is attained through peer recognition of exemplary leadership within the field.

“USABA's Board of Directors wants to congratulate Mark on being recognized for his leadership by his peers at VisionServe Alliance,” USABA Board President Dave Bushland said. “We are fortunate to have Mark in his Executive Director role helping our athletes achieve their dreams.”

USABA Mission: To improve the lives of people who are blind and visually impaired through sport, recreation and physical activity. For more information go to www.usaba.org.
