The first American male and female across the finish line in San Diego will be crowned the 2013 elite national champions. Sarah Haskins (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Jarrod Shoemaker (Clermont, Fla.) captured the 2012 USA Triathlon Elite National Championship wins in Buffalo, N.Y.

Posted this week, the elite start lists for the 2013 Omegawave ITU World Triathlon San Diego include 2012 U.S. Olympic Triathlon Team members Sarah Groff (Hanover, N.H.), Gwen Jorgensen (St. Paul, Minn.) and Hunter Kemper (Colorado Springs, Colo.), along with a number of additional top U.S. athletes.

Visit triathlon.org for current men's and women's start lists, which are subject to change until race week. As of this week, 53 of the 110 athletes who competed at the 2012 Olympic Games in London's Hyde Park are on the San Diego start list.

In addition to the Omegawave World Triathlon San Diego prize purse, the top U.S. finishers can claim their share of a $10,000 Elite Nationals purse with $5,000 split among the top three male and top three female finishers.

The 2013 USA Triathlon Under-23 National Championships will be contested within the June 2 Dallas ITU Pan American Cup. The top U.S. finisher age 23 or younger will earn the national title. USA Triathlon's Junior Elite and Youth Elite National Championships are slated for Aug. 3 in West Chester, Ohio.

Additionally, USA Triathlon will host the draft-legal USA Triathlon Elite Sprint National Championships in the fall and will designate select 2013 events as Elite National Championships for pros competing in other race distances and disciplines. Complete race details will be announced in the near future.
