Meijer State Games of Michigan Wins 2013 Governor’s Fitness Award for Extraordinary Event

The Meijer State Games of Michigan has been awarded the 2013 Extraordinary Event/Organization Award by the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports. This award recognizes organizations or events that encourage others to make healthy choices by teaching, volunteering, role modeling or other community involvement.

In its fourth year, the Meijer State Games of Michigan serves the mission of the West Michigan Sports Commission as its signature event by providing Michigan residents an Olympic experience that motivates them to stay active, improve their lifestyle to enjoy a better quality of life.

Eric Engelbarts, Executive Director of the Meijer State Games, accepted the award on behalf of the West Michigan Sports Commission, “I would like to thank the Michigan Fitness Foundation and Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports for empowering events like ours that celebrate healthy choices. I would also like to thank the Meijer family and corporation for their continued support as well as the rest of our corporate sponsors.”

Engelbarts continued, “Congratulations to our athletes, who are the true face of this event, for all of their remarkable accomplishments and making the Meijer State Games of Michigan the 2013 Governor’s Council Extraordinary Event.”

The fourth annual Meijer State Games of Michigan – Summer Games will be held June 21-23, 2013 and feature over 6,000 athletes in 35 sports competing for gold, silver and bronze medals.
