The Independence Tourism Department and the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (NCRHA) announced that the 16th Annual National Collegiate Roller Hockey Championships will be held in Independence, Missouri.

For the week of April 8 – 13, 2015 the Independence Events Center will convert its two ice rinks to roller hockey rinks, bringing approximately 60 teams from four divisions (Division I, Division II, Junior College Division, and B Division) together to compete for the title of Collegiate Roller Hockey National Champion. The event will be hosted by the NCRHA in conjunction with the City of Independence and the Independence Events Center.

“This is truly a power play for the community of Independence,” said Cori Day, Director of  Independence Tourism. “The NCRHA will love coming to Independence. This town has a hockey fan base and will welcome this championship event with open arms.”

The format for the event includes three round robin games for each team, followed by a single elimination bracket round leading up to the National Championship games. A complete listing of the colleges and universities that will be represented, round robin pools and the game schedule will be available on the NCRHA website, www.NCRHA.org, in March - April 2015.

“We are pleased to have the championships in Independence, Missouri.  It is a hockey-loving town and is an easily-accessible venue in the heartland of the U.S.,” said Rob Coggin, Director of League Operations for the NCRHA. “The teams and their families will have plenty to see and do in the area in between games, and the Independence Events Center is a world class facility that will be an excellent host.”

As the event nears, the NCRHA website will also feature a dedicated section with event details.  This will include block schedule, team invitations (bids), and travel information such as airport, hotel, rental car, local attractions, etc.

“For one week in April 2015 we are exchanging our ice skates for inline skates, and it will be great fun,” added Day.

The 2014 event is currently being played at Aston, Pennsylvania’s IceWorks Skating Complex.  Previous locales for this championship tournament have been the Ft. Myers, Florida’s Skatium in 2013, the Utah Olympic Oval in Salt Lake City in 2012, and the Capitol Ice Arena in Madison, Wisconsin in 2011.
