Boingo to Deploy Advanced Cellular DAS Network Providing World-Class Connectivity for Fans, Students and Staff Throughout Arizona Stadium, Campus Facilities

Boingo Wireless (NASDAQ: WIFI), the leading DAS and Wi-Fi provider that serves consumers, carriers and advertisers worldwide, announced today that the University of Arizona has selected the company to design, build and manage the University’s first Distributed Antenna System (DAS), which will provide improved voice and data coverage and capacity for Wildcat fans, students and faculty.

The first phase of the Boingo DAS network deployment will deliver comprehensive cellular coverage throughout the 56,000-seat Arizona Stadium, including all fan areas and the Steward Observatory Mirror Laboratory, as well as the nearby student residence halls.

Boingo’s approach to the neutral host, multi-carrier DAS network will ensure network availability to all wireless carriers without bias, at no cost to the university. The Boingo DAS network is scheduled to launch in fall 2013, during the Wildcat football season.

“We are excited for what the DAS will do to enhance the game day experience for our fans. It’s important to us that we evolve and improve, and the DAS helps us to keep pace with the technology needs of our customers,” said Greg Byrne, University of Arizona Vice President for Athletics.

“Boingo has a great track record of designing and maintaining cellular DAS systems for both public and private service use in high-density locations. Boingo’s new DAS network will provide enhanced public safety and spectator connectivity, allowing fans to enjoy a safe and connected Game Day experience,” said Matt George, University of Arizona’s Assistant Athletic Director, Video and Information Technology. “Our collaboration with Boingo will also lay the foundation for a multi-phase, expanded cellular installation that will strengthen and improve the campus network for years to come.”

“The University of Arizona understands that data demand is set to exponentially increase in the coming years, and has ambitious plans to greatly enhance campus cellular capacity and coverage. We bring more than a decade of experience in developing multi-purpose, flexible DAS solutions to the UA’s first DAS project, and are building a network that will scale with the University’s connectivity needs,” said Doug Lodder, vice president of business development for Boingo Wireless. “We look forward to helping the University realize its vision of an advanced, campus-wide cellular network that anticipates the future connectivity demands of fans, students and faculty.”

The multi-layered DAS network will be optimized to provide high-capacity coverage throughout the common areas of the stadium and nearby facilities and dormitories, ensuring that Wildcat fans will be able to share video, photos, Facebook updates and Tweets real-time, while campus communications systems will have increased network availability.

“The Boingo DAS installation is part of the University’s Strategic Network Master Plan, a ten-year plan developed by campus IT and business professionals in partnership with the Office of the CIO to upgrade the capacity and security of our campus network,” said Michele Norin, University of Arizona Chief Information Officer. “The Network Master Plan helps us anticipate and meet the technological needs of the UA campus community and ensure its continued growth and success.”

Boingo has extensive experience operating advanced DAS systems with networks deployed at major league sports stadiums, mass transit hubs and universities. The company is the largest provider of neutral host DAS networks in U.S. airports, including Chicago’s O’Hare and Midway, and New York’s JFK, LaGuardia and Newark International airports.
