427 Local Youth to Play at the Smith River Sports Complex

The 2016 Piedmont Youth Soccer League Fall Season began this past weekend at the Smith River Sports Complex. 427 local children will be participating in the eight-week season that concludes on October 29.

"I'm excited to see the soccer fields filled again and so many kids enjoying the game at the recreation, academy and travel level," Enda Crehan, PYSL director of coaching, said. "With numbers up in certain programs it shows soccer is again on the rise. I am looking forward to a great soccer season all round."

For this fall, 427 kids will participate in the Piedmont Youth Academy and recreational league. The PYSL travel program also has 105 kids participating on eight different teams, bringing the total to 532 kids enrolled in the PYSL soccer program. Thirty-eight teams comprised of children from 3 years old to 16 years old will compete during each PYSL weekend at the Smith River Sports Complex. The PYSL is also very fortunate to have over 60 volunteer coaches and team managers helping this fall season.

"We at the PYSL are extremely excited to get the new fall season up and running, including our new programs such as the Girls Rec. League," Matt Beaton, PYSL director of programs, said. "We would like to especially thank our new and continuing sponsors, volunteers, parents, referees, and players for keeping the passion for soccer high in our area."

As an added bonus for being at the Complex on a PYSL Saturday, SRSC has decided to open The Big Dipper Water Slide at 10 a.m. and allow guests to ride as long as they would like for just $5 until 4 p.m. on September 10 and 17.
