The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) is excited to announce the Grand Opening celebration for its new driving range. The event will be Thursday, June 2, at 11 a.m. The celebration will take place at the driving range on the SRSC property and feature three guest speakers along with the honorary first shot from the tee-box to signify the official opening to the public.

Participating in the opening drive will be influential figures from the city of Martinsville, Henry County, Complex staff and members of the Martinsville-Henry County golfing community, including the area high school teams.

The driving range is part of a long-range plan to enhance the sustainability of the Smith River Sports Complex. Stakeholders involved spent 18-months researching potential additions before deciding on this element as well as the water slide that will open this summer. The new driving range will provide the complex an opportunity for additional recreational revenue while also serving as an extra amenity for guests to the complex and our community.

The project was supported by funding from the Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation. Additional partners included the City of Martinsville, City of Martinsville Electric Department, Henry County, the Henry County Board of Supervisors, Henry County Public Service Authority, the Harvest Foundation, Lester Building Supply, Max Kendall Lumber & Tin and Hopkins Lumber Contractors who leveraged the funding with in-kind support and services.

The self-serve driving range will be open from dawn to dusk year-round. It is 26,400 square feet and features 10 covered tee-boxes with mats for rain or shine use as well as a natural grass hitting area.  Buckets of golf balls to hit will be dispensed for $5 out of an on-site vending machine that will accept cash or credit card. The driving range is located adjacent to the Smith River Sports Complex’s maintenance facility.
