The Cowtown Marathon is gearing up to celebrate 40 years of running in unforgettable fashion, with a nostalgic feel that will take the city of Fort Worth back to the 1970s when it all began (1979).

This momentous occasion will encompass multiple events that take place during the week leading up to race weekend on February 23rd– 25th. The Cowtown Marathon’s 40th Anniversary has already generated increased registration numbers, as well as volunteer participation throughout the community. Anticipation is building as runners, walkers, spectators and athletes from all over the United States and the world make plans to be a part of this history-making fitness event.

To kick off the anniversary festivities, The Cowtown Marathon will host a one-mile social run called “The Cowtown Bai Bai Crestline Mile” on Tuesday, February 20th at 6:00 p.m. This untimed fun run, sponsored by Bai Water, will commemorate one of Fort Worth runners’ favorite streets, Crestline Road, part of which is being demolished shortly after The Cowtown Marathon’s 40th anniversary weekend concludes.  To further commemorate the date of its origin, The Cowtown Marathon will limit the number of registrants to exactly 1979 runners.

On the evening of Friday, February 23rd, The Cowtown Marathon will host a 40th Anniversary party which will be held at The Round Up Inn at Will Rogers Memorial Center from 5:30 - 7:30. This 70s-themed reception will recognize past winners of the race, as well as shine a spotlight on volunteers and sponsors who have made this event the success it has become.

ABOUT THE COWTOWN: The Cowtown believes it is never too late to start living a healthier lifestyle regardless of age, size or background; that a fit and active child will adopt healthy, life-long habits; and that community involvement is the key to its success. A nonprofit 501(c)3, it has one of the largest youth runs in the nation, and race weekend proceeds help underwrite its official charity, the C.A.L.F. Program (Children’s Activities for Life and Fitness). The 40th annual Cowtown is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 23rd through Sunday, Feb. 25th at Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
