More than 600 Athletes From Across the State Expected May 6-7 at Bayfront Convention Center

The Erie Sports Commission is pleased to announce the 2017 Xcel State Gymnastics Championships will be held in Erie on Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7. The event, which anticipates hosting more than 600 gymnasts, will be held at the Bayfront Convention Center.

Erie Gymnastics Center will host the event, which is sanctioned by USA Gymnastics. Erie was last selected to host Xcel States in 2015.

Competition will begin at 8 a.m. on both days, and will feature multiple sessions of Xcel Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond level athletes. Full competition schedules will be available two weeks prior to the event.

Gymnasts qualify to participate in the state championship event by obtaining a 34.00 minimum all-around score at various sanctioned events around the United States.

“We’re thrilled to be able to host States in Erie once again,” said Doug Pershun, Owner of Erie Gymnastics. “We have proven that Erie is a great gymnastics community, and to host the best gymnasts from the state is an honor.”

“Erie Gymnastics has a stellar reputation for hosting gymnastics meets, so I can think of no better host for a state competition,” said Ron Sertz, Executive Director of the Erie Sports Commission. “We’re thrilled to assist them in hosting Xcel States for the second time.”

Daily admission is $10 for adults and $7 for youth under 18. Multi-day passes are available for $15 for adults, and $12 for youth under 18.
