Seaside Chamber is expanding its annual Seaside Beach Volleyball Tournament to include Thursday in its efforts to grow the Junior divisions.  “Juniors are already 40% of the tournament so expanding to Thursday allows us to grow those divisions while also opening up adult divisions for the weekend,” explained Deng Thepharat, from NWAS Bad Boys, the new tournament directors.  The tournament runs August 11 through August 14 on the beach in Seaside, Oregon.

Registrations for 2016 are now available online at www.SeasideBeachVolleyball.com and includes 56 divisions of tournament play over four days making this the largest amateur beach volleyball tournament in the world.  Last year there were 1506 teams.  Discounted fees for early registrations end July 15 and registrations close August 1 or when division caps are met.  For more information, visit the website or email volleyball@seasidechamber.com.

Tournament directors are NWAS Bad Boys Volleyball operated by Deng Thepharat, PT Thilavanh and Mike Griffin from Portland. They are active members of the volleyball community and former players at the Seaside tournament.   The group has ties to USA Volleyball through the regional group, CEVA (Columbia Empire Volleyball Association) where Thepharat is a board member.

The Seaside Chamber of Commerce has hosted the largest amateur beach volleyball tournament in the country for the past 34 years and in the world since 2011 when it was awarded world record-breaking status by the World Records Academy, LLC.   In 2015 the event was enjoyed by over 1500 teams, spanning 140 courts during three days of competition.   Prize money is set at over $26,000 for the tournament.  Seaside Chamber Beach Volleyball takes place the 2nd weekend of August each year.  2016 dates are August 11, 12, 13 & 14.

Sponsors for the Seaside Chamber Beach Volleyball Tournament include Bud Light/Clatsop Distributing, Spalding, Recology of Western Oregon, Pacific Power, Fred Meyer, Seaside Providence Hospital and CLIF Bars.  For more information, visit www.SeasideChamber.com or contact the Chamber at 503-738-6391 or by email at volleyball@SeasideChamber.com.
