The gamers are coming. That's the bet that MGM Resorts is making with the news that the Luxor will be home to a dedicated esports arena scheduled to debut early next year.

This information was originally published in an article in Travel Weekly, which read as follows:

The Las Vegas arena, a collaboration with Allied Esports, a network of venues that host competitive video gaming, and the Esports Arena, which has a location in Santa Ana, Calif., and one on the way in Oakland, Calif., will take over the space that until recently housed the LAX nightclub. YWS Design & Architecture will transform the 30,000-square-foot party stop into a multilevel arena with a stage backed by an LED wall and "television-quality production studios."

"We have very ambitious expansion plans over the next two years, and when we realized that a location at Luxor was possible we jumped at the opportunity to develop our flagship here," said Jud Hannigan, CEO of Allied Esports, via press release.

While this development signals MGM's largest commitment to esports to date, the company has already dabbled in competitive video gaming by hosting various events and contests. In February, MGM Grand's Garden Arena welcomed the five-day international DreamHack Masters tournament, and last April the League of Legends North American League Championship Series was held at Mandalay Bay Events Center.

The nonprofit Nevada Esports Alliance launched in February, dedicated to making Las Vegas a capital of the exploding esports universe.

"Our company is the leader in the entertainment industry and recognizes the exciting growth in esports," Luxor GM Niklas Rytterstrom said in a statement. "With this partnership, we will introduce a new experience to the market, once again elevating the city's vast entertainment offerings."
