The 2014 Solomons Offshore Grand Prix (SOGP) is coming up fast – in every way. The event will take place on September 12, 13 and 14. Spectators will have the opportunity to witness high power fast boats as they race along the Patuxent River, vying to be crowned the 2014 OPA National Champion.

The venue will be Solomons Town Center Park.

Now in its 5th year, the SOGP has become a well-known destination for power boat racing enthusiasts from all over the mid-Atlantic region. Voted “Favorite Race Venue” last year by racing fans, Solomons Island has the best views of any race site on the East Coast. The SOGP is not like any other race. It is the culmination of the season long grind where some teams can put the cherry on top, or those not too far behind can pull an upset and be crowned the 2014 OPA Racing National Champion.

The SOGP was initiated by local powerboat racing fans and Southern Maryland residents have supported the SOGP with enthusiasm. Last year's race drew an estimated 35,000 spectators during the three-day event and we expect the numbers of attendees to continue to grow. In addition to the racing, the SOGP race committee is planning fun and exciting activities for the entire family. Last year, the residents and business community of Solomons Island welcomed racers and fans alike with open arms. The town buzzed with excitement all weekend. In fact, local officials estimated nearly 20,000 fans were in attendance on race day.

Details are available on the event website.
