2016 Event Will Bring in 50-60 Teams

The Cedar Rapids Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and VenuWorks of Cedar Rapids are pleased to announce the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (NCRHA) has selected Cedar Rapids to host the 2016 National Collegiate Roller Hockey Championships.

The event will take place April 6-10, 2016 at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena and will use the facility’s hockey arena and Olympic rink. Over the course of the competition 56-60 teams, in four divisions, will play 140 games. Participating teams are recognized by their respective schools as official club sports teams and qualify for the national competition at the beginning of March.

The national championships have been held in Independence, MO; Philadelphia, PA; Fort Myers, FL; and Salt Lake City, UT over the last four years.

“The NCRHA Board liked the quality and amenities of the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena and the city’s central location to our member institutions.  We were also impressed with the willingness exhibited by the Convention & Visitors Bureau and VenuWorks to accommodate our event’s needs.  We look forward to holding the 2016 Championships in Cedar Rapids,” said Rob Coggin, NCRHA Director of League Operations.

The event will impact all areas of the city.  Teams and their fans are expected to generate 1,000 overnights in local hotels.  When not competing, they will be exploring area restaurants, retail and entertainment options.  Athletes and fans are expected to generate more than $925,000 in local spending.
