Indianapolis Indians Announce Victory Field Upgrades for 2017

Venue Welcomes Other Events, Including College Matchups, Celebrity Softball Challenges and Football Games

After celebrating 20 seasons at Victory Field in 2016, the Indianapolis Indians will begin the next 20 with an infusion of modern technology. New displays, a state-of-the-art ballpark sound system, and enhanced video production capabilities will all be in place ahead of the 2017 season, Indians General Manager Randy Lewandowski announced on Tuesday.

All three projects totaling approximately $2.4 million are expected to be substantially complete by February 17, 2017.

The venue is expected to welcome other events, including college matchups, celebrity softball challenges and football games.

“The fan experience and creating positive lasting memories has long been a focus for our organization,” said Lewandowski. “As we prepare Victory Field for the future, we will continue to consider our fans first and foremost.  These upgrades are just the beginning of how we plan to help the next generation of Indians fans create wonderful memories of their own”

VIDEO DISPLAYS: The new outfield video board will measure 35’ x 50’, roughly tripling the size of the current 18’ x 32’ display. The high-definition board manufactured by Daktronics, Inc. (DAKT) will be the brightest available on the current market. ‘Victory Field’ will continue to adorn the top of the display and it will be bordered by 14’-wide fixed signage on each side.

Along with a new video board, Victory Field will feature two ribbon boards lining the upper deck down each baseline. The 135’ displays will enhance the ballpark’s game presentation with in-game scoring, game information, out-of-town scores, and additional advertising space.

The center field marquee facing the corner of West and Maryland Streets will also be upgraded to a full color display.

AUDIO SYSTEM: A state-of-the-art sound system will replace Victory Field’s original equipment and allow for cleaner and clearer audio throughout the ballpark. An ERMCO/ESCO joint venture is contracted to replace the current speakers, amplifiers, and all other audio control systems as the ballpark makes a full transition from analog to digital technology.

VIDEO PRODUCTION: Indians baseball will be brought to you in high-definition for the first time in 2017. The improved video quality will also feature enhanced replay ability for the Tribe’s video production staff. Locally-based Duncan Video, Inc. has been contracted to re-work Victory Field’s control room in order to house new cameras and equipment.

The Indians will host their 2017 home-opener on Thursday, April 6, at 7:05 p.m. Season tickets are available now.
