International Elite Track Cyclists to Descend on Memorial Park for Third Straight Year

The U.S. Olympic Training Center will host the 2014 U.S. Grand Prix of Colorado Springs July 11-12 at the Velodrome in Memorial Park. The world-class event returns to Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the third straight year and will feature approximately 100 elite track cyclists representing eight nations from around the world, including the United States, Canada, Colombia, Guatemala, Holland, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, and South Africa.

The Grand Prix is the third of five events on the 2014 USA Cycling National Track Calendar and will offer elite sprinters the chance to earn qualifying points for the upcoming UCI Track Cycling World Cup and 2014 World Championships. Participants will contest the match sprint, time trial and keirin.

In 2013, USA Cycling crowned four riders who topped the final NTC standings, including seven-time world champion and two-time Olympic medalist Sarah Hammer, who is scheduled to compete at the July 11-12 event.

The world’s fastest cyclists travel to Colorado Springs annually to train and compete at the Grand Prix. The 2013 event featured five world record-setting performances and more than a dozen national records. Nations represented in the last two years have also included Australia, Ecuador, Germany, Great Britain, India, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland and Venezuela.

Admission is $10 per session and open to the public. Sessions are scheduled to begin daily at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Click here to view a complete schedule.
