XTERRA Mission Gorge Trail Run Steps Off This Weekend

3 Feb, 2017

The eleventh annual XTERRA Mission Gorge Trail Run hits the trails on Sunday, February 5 at Mission Trails Regional Park. Part of the 2017 National XTERRA Trail Run Series, this events features top athletes traversing the trails just east of San Diego. Many elite athletes will run in hopes of accumulating points to qualify for the XTERRA National Championship in September.

The highlight of the 15k course is the ‘thousand steps,’ which treats runners to a nearly vertical climb overlooking Mission Gorge! After record rainfall this past month, the adventure will be amplified by multiple creek crossings.

Athletes will also be treated to a scenic and challenging run up the Fortuna Mountain and the surrounding landscape.

With a 5k and 15k course, the event caters to both experienced athletes and beginners. Both courses offer stunning views and an epic outdoor adventure! The run starts at 8:00 a.m. and is the perfect way to get in a workout before eating, drinking, and cheering on the other (more well-known) athletes of the day.

Thanks to event sponsors, The North FaceClif BarSuuntoPaul Mitchell, and Gatorade, hungry runners will enjoy a pre-bowl event festival serving complimentary breakfast burritos, Kashi Cereal, Naked Juice and Starbucks coffee!

XTERRA Mission Gorge Trail Run is the fourth of seven races on the 2016-2017 season schedule for the award winning XTERRA SoCal Trail Run Series.
