Conference USA to Keep Basketball Tournaments in Birmingham, AL

Conference USA held its spring meetings in Destin, Florida, where athletic directors voted to keep the men's and women's basketball tournaments in Birmingham, according to an article in the Birmingham Business Journal, which read as follows:

Pending a vote from conference presidents, the tournament will return to the Magic City for 2017. The city edged El Paso, Texas, which was also in consideration. If approved, it will be Birmingham's third consecutive year hosting the tournament.

UAB men's basketball won the Conference USA Tournament in 2015, but lost early in the quarterfinal stage in 2016. Middle Tennessee State University won the title this year before going on to beat Michigan State in the first round the NCAA Tournament.
