The Powerade State Games of North Carolina will return to two familiar communities in 2013-2016. North Carolina’s largest multi-sport, amateur athletic sporting event will return to Charlotte in 2013 and 2014. The Triangle (Raleigh, Durham and Cary) submitted a joint bid and were awarded the Games for 2015 and 2016.

Charlotte hosted the Powerade State Games of North Carolina for the first time in 2009 and 2010. The Triangle area has hosted the Games fifteen different times since the event began in 1986, most recently in Cary in 2005 and 2006.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to partner with these outstanding communities again,” said Chuck Hobgood, President of North Carolina Amateur Sports. “Rotating the Games to various communities across the state allows us to share the economic impact benefits of the event with these communities and provides our participants with the opportunity to compete in the best facilities in North Carolina.”

North Carolina Amateur Sports will announce the 2017-2020 Host Cities in January. Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Charlotte and the Triangle (Raleigh/Durham/Cary) have submitted proposals to host the Games during those four years.

The 2012 edition of the Powerade State Games will return to Winston-Salem for the second consecutive year. The 2011 event included nearly 10,000 athletes and coaches from 97 of 100 of North Carolina’s counties. More than 10,000 athletes and more than 20,000 spectators are expected to return to Winston-Salem for the Powerade State Games in June! Registration for the 2012 event opens in January.
